String Theory and Christianity; are they compatible with each other?

Let me start off by saying that I am not an expert on either one of these categories nor do I pretend to be.  However, I have read up on String Theory enough to know what it is.  So let’s start there.

String Theory, for those of you that may not have heard about it, is the theory that each event and decision ever made breaks off and forms a new timeline.  That’s its simplest definition anyway, for instance in an alternate timeline we might have lost the Revolutionary War and are still in control by the British.  Or to make it more personal let’s say that when your Grandfather, instead of having an orange right before meeting your Grandmother decided to have a pastrami and Gouda sandwich.  Seems harmless enough, right? Well, what if it really turned your Grandmother off and she wound up with someone else?  UH, OH you were never born, consequently the world would ultimately turn out different.

An example of this would be the movie, It’s a Wonderful Life.  so you can imagine from the beginning of time all these different time lines like a web just spurting out into an infinite amount of time lines.  the reason it’s called “String Theory” is because if one found a way, you would be able to take one timeline and bend it back to overlap a previous time or even an alternate  timeline, and visit or observe that time.

So your probably wondering why I brought Christianity into this?  A friend of mine just yesterday posted this on Facebook yesterday;

“Sorrow looks back, Doubt looks around, FAITH LOOKS UP. Where are you looking??”

I couldn’t resist, I said “Forward to keep on the path.”   Her response  “Only if it is the path God set before you, Ken”  So that got me thinking, what if God set up every path, even the ones that lead you straight to the pits of eternal damnation,  and it was up to you which way you go?  But then ultimately, every path would be taken if string theory were true.  Such a dilemma, on one hand God may have a plan for you, on the other, every plan is for you.  What are your thoughts?

  1. Hey did you know Steve from the oldschool Blues Clues is all about string theory. He even has a band..either the band is called Super String Theory or theres a song with that title I don’t remember now.

    You’re welcome.

  2. He’s just misunderstood.

    “Here’s the mail it never fails, makes me wanna wag my tail, when it comes I want to wail MAAAAIIIIIIIIILLLL!”

    Genius. Pure genius.

  3. Hey this is old, I commented it before.

    I like your answer. “Faith looks up” makes me think literally, and contributes to the misconception that God lives in the clouds.

    I’m not big on concepts that humanize God. God isn’t human. God is spirit. God is everywhere.

    That’s really all I have to say about that. Didn’t pertain to the bulk of the blog, just so you’re aware that I’m aware. 😉
